Terry Copper asked:

Strange situation: You've bought a replica watch on the web and put it on for the first time. It feels as it should, looks at it should-even at close scrutiny it looks like real jewels on the dial and feels like high carat gold. So you walk out in the Manhattan night with it, proudly flashing it around, short sleeved. It's a nice summer night, with a half moon. You're walking along the park on your way to meet a woman. Perhaps she'll think it's real and think, gee, this guy must be doing better than he lets on...with that gold, and diamond Rolex, he must be pulling in some serious money.

Now, you're so distracted by how wealthy, successful, fashionable and charming you look with the watch on that you forget how alarmingly expensive it looks...and here you are walking through Central Park at night being gawked at by bearded men with shopping carts full of moldy blankets and cardboard. Next thing you know you're getting mugged. It's like an 80's cop show about NYC. "Gimme your Rolex!", the guy demands. And you thought replica watches were supposed to just make you feel like you're wearing the real thing! The thief thinks it's real!

Odds are this hasn't happened to you. But it did happen to me. I had just bought a Replica Rolex Datejust watch, with the gold oyster lock bracelet and diamond encrusted dial...the whole kit and caboodle for 400 bucks-and felt like a million bucks wearing it, but got mugged. The very first night! Luckily he was a fairly gentle crook...all I lost was the chance to charm my date...ah and my watch. Oddly it gave me more respect for replica watches...I mean they really do pass for real. Maybe I'll just avoid the really flashy diamond encrusted ones from now on.

I keep wondering, did he turn around and sell it like it was real?
